"Old-school rock done atypically poorly for B'z"...[Track List & Text Review]
Track List
"B'z - EP" is the first of US iTunes release for long-running rock & roll duo B'z. Tak Matsumoto, the composer and guitarist, and Koshi Inaba, the lyricist and vocalist, released their first album together in 1988. Over the years they've changed their style to suit the times, but they can best be compared to classic and 80's rock bands like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. They've been honored & recognized for their musical skills even on this side of the Pacific, and yet this is one of the only two US iTunes offerings from the band.
LIKES:
- The melodies to B'z songs are almost always slick and memorable, and this is no exception.
- Koshi Inaba's English is surprisingly good.
- Tak's guitar is pretty much incredible the whole way through the EP.
DISLIKES:
- The production on the three redone songs is weak and quiet overall.
- Koshi's voice suffers in english, making him whinier and screechier than usual.
- The way they destroyed Ultra Soul was just saaaaaad.
Usually I recommend B'z to anyone who likes good old-fashioned rock music, but this release is atypically weak. Go into purchasing this with caution - listen to the review and listen to the clips in iTunes before you make your decision.
